Back extensions and side extensions form the mainstay of JBS Ltd’s contracting activity. Usually, these projects are Architect managed to require their considered design input incorporating the refurbishment of the adjacent interiors and the exterior landscaping.
One such, a large terraced house in Hammersmith had the entire lower ground and ground floor rear structural walls spanning the entire width of the property removed. A massive undertaking, shoring up the building above in order to install massive steel beams to hold up the house.
An open plan arrangement for the lower ground floor was realized and so to a sitting room with a roof terrace overlooking the garden. This required the removal of tons of soil to extend the patio out into the garden at the lower level and the installation of an impressive lime stone stair way up toward the rear of the garden all appointed with elegant stone balustrades. An exceptional job!
The usual gambit involves opening out the rear and side walls of a semi-detached Edwardian hose. Spanning the opening with steels and infilling with full width folding or sliding glass doors opening on to a patio.
In these instances, the careful management of the logistics reduces the difficulties experienced by the household by virtue of isolating the works areas from the living interiors until most of the main works are complete and the adjoining of the areas is inevitable.
